Junk Run has been partnering with Dimension Shopfitters and interior fit out specialists to help them reduce the waste going to landfill. Dimension have been involved with the strip outs and fit outs of some of Auckland’s most exclusive and high-end retail brands. A lot of these projects have involved very tight turnaround times inside large shopping malls. These sites are typically difficult to get a skip bin into, and the team at Dimension wanted to do a better job diverting waste away from landfill.
Junk Run Construction Sales Manager Dave Knight, helped the team and Dimension to set up waste management plans and discussed waste reduction options. This involved providing a selection of wheelie bins to each site, so waste could be separated into streams onsite as much as possible. Each site manager got on board to support the changes and enforce the new waste systems with builders and sub-contractors. This meant the Junk Run team could ensure as items like plasterboard and gib, insulation, electrical wire and timber offcuts were rehomed or recycled properly. At the conclusion of each project, a full waste impact report is provided back to the Dimension management team.
Together Junk Run and Dimension Shopfitters have been involved in managing the waste on Lululemon active wear stores, Spec Savers, Professional Nails in Britomart, Rodd and Gunn Queen Street and various Chemist Warehouse fit outs. As well as helping each site to reduce their waste going to landfill- Junk Run has also helped Dimension clear their factory and warehouses to ensure as much as possible was rehomed or recycled.
On average Junk Run can divert over 80% of the waste coming off retail shop refit sites like this – to avoid it ending up in landfill via a traditional skip bin model.
